Security and privacy
How Camera Sync protects your photos and data.
Your privacy and data security are our top priorities. Here's how Camera Sync keeps your photos safe.
How your data flows
- Camera → Camera Sync: Your camera uploads photos via encrypted FTP/SFTP
- Camera Sync → Google Photos: We immediately transfer the photo to your Google account
- Temporary storage only: Photos are deleted from our servers after successful transfer
Encryption in transit
We support multiple secure connection methods:
- FTPS: FTP over TLS (encrypted)
- SFTP: SSH File Transfer Protocol (encrypted)
- Standard FTP: Available but not recommended for sensitive content
For maximum security, use SFTP on port 2022.
We never store your photos
Camera Sync operates as a pass-through service:
- Photos exist on our servers only during processing (typically 5-30 seconds)
- After successful upload to Google Photos, photos are permanently deleted
- We do not create backups or copies of your images
What we do store
To provide the service, we store:
- Your email address (from Google sign-in)
- Your FTP credentials (encrypted)
- Upload metadata (filename, size, timestamp, status)
- Subscription status
We do not store:
- Photo content or image data
- Google account passwords
- Payment card details (handled by Stripe)
Google Photos permissions
Camera Sync requests minimal permissions:
- Create albums: To create your "Camera Sync" album
- Upload photos: To add your photos to the album
We cannot:
- Access other photos in your Google Photos
- Delete your photos
- View your Google Drive or other services
Credential security
Your FTP credentials are:
- Generated using cryptographically secure random values
- Stored encrypted at rest
- Unique to your account
- Revocable at any time (contact support)
Data retention
- Upload metadata: Retained for 90 days for troubleshooting
- Account data: Retained while your account is active
- After account deletion: All data deleted within 30 days
