Setting up Canon cameras

Step-by-step guide to configure FTP on Canon EOS cameras.

This guide covers FTP setup for Canon EOS cameras with built-in WiFi and FTP capabilities.

Compatible Canon cameras

Most Canon cameras with built-in WiFi and FTP support work with Camera Sync, including:

  • Canon EOS R series (R3, R5, R6, R7, R8, R10, etc.)
  • Canon EOS-1D X Mark II/III
  • Canon EOS 5D Mark IV
  • Canon EOS 6D Mark II
  • Canon EOS 90D, 80D, 7D Mark II

Setup instructions

Step 1: Access network settings

  1. Press the Menu button on your camera
  2. Navigate to the Wrench/Settings tab
  3. Find Network settings or Communication settings
  4. Select Built-in wireless or WiFi settings

Step 2: Connect to WiFi

  1. Choose WiFi functionFTP transfer
  2. Select your WiFi network from the list
  3. Enter your WiFi password
  4. Wait for the connection to establish

Step 3: Configure FTP server

  1. In FTP settings, select Set up server
  2. Enter the following details:

Step 4: Enter login credentials

  1. Select Login settings
  2. Enter your Camera Sync username
  3. Enter your Camera Sync password
  4. Set the target folder to / (root)

Step 5: Enable automatic transfer

  1. Go to Auto send or Auto transfer
  2. Enable automatic transfer
  3. Choose when to transfer (during shooting, during playback, etc.)

Testing the connection

  1. Take a test photo
  2. Check your Camera Sync dashboard for the upload
  3. Verify the photo appears in your Google Photos album

Troubleshooting

Connection failed: Double-check your WiFi password and FTP credentials.

Slow transfers: Ensure you're on a stable WiFi network. 5GHz networks typically perform better.

Photos not appearing: Check that automatic transfer is enabled and your camera is connected to WiFi.
