Setting up Sony cameras

Step-by-step guide to configure FTP on Sony Alpha cameras.

This guide covers FTP setup for Sony Alpha cameras with built-in WiFi and FTP capabilities.

Compatible Sony cameras

Sony cameras with FTP transfer support include:

  • Sony Alpha 1 (A1)
  • Sony Alpha 9 series (A9, A9 II)
  • Sony Alpha 7 series (A7 IV, A7R V, A7S III, etc.)
  • Sony FX3, FX6, FX9

Setup instructions

Step 1: Access network settings

  1. Press the Menu button
  2. Navigate to Network (globe icon)
  3. Select FTP Transfer Func. or FTP Transfer

Step 2: Register your FTP server

  1. Choose FTP Server Setting
  2. Select an empty server slot (Server 1, 2, or 3)
  3. Choose Destination Settings

Step 3: Enter server details

Configure the following settings:

Step 4: Configure connection

  1. Select Wireless Settings
  2. Choose Access Point Set.
  3. Select your WiFi network and enter the password

Step 5: Enable FTP function

  1. Return to FTP Transfer Func.
  2. Set FTP Function to On
  3. Select your configured server
  4. Enable Auto Transfer if available

Transfer options

Sony cameras offer several transfer modes:

  • Auto Transfer: Automatically transfers each photo after capture
  • Transfer Target: Choose to transfer all or only selected images
  • RAW+JPEG: Select which format to transfer

Testing the connection

  1. Take a test photo
  2. Look for the FTP icon on your camera screen
  3. Check your Camera Sync dashboard for the upload

Common issues

No FTP icon appearing: Ensure FTP Function is set to On and you're connected to WiFi.

Transfer stuck: Try switching between access points or restarting the camera.

Authentication failed: Re-enter your Camera Sync credentials, checking for typos.
