Setting up Sony cameras
Step-by-step guide to configure FTP on Sony Alpha cameras.
This guide covers FTP setup for Sony Alpha cameras with built-in WiFi and FTP capabilities.
Compatible Sony cameras
Sony cameras with FTP transfer support include:
- Sony Alpha 1 (A1)
- Sony Alpha 9 series (A9, A9 II)
- Sony Alpha 7 series (A7 IV, A7R V, A7S III, etc.)
- Sony FX3, FX6, FX9
Setup instructions
Step 1: Access network settings
- Press the Menu button
- Navigate to Network (globe icon)
- Select FTP Transfer Func. or FTP Transfer
Step 2: Register your FTP server
- Choose FTP Server Setting
- Select an empty server slot (Server 1, 2, or 3)
- Choose Destination Settings
Step 3: Enter server details
Configure the following settings:

Step 4: Configure connection
- Select Wireless Settings
- Choose Access Point Set.
- Select your WiFi network and enter the password
Step 5: Enable FTP function
- Return to FTP Transfer Func.
- Set FTP Function to On
- Select your configured server
- Enable Auto Transfer if available
Transfer options
Sony cameras offer several transfer modes:
- Auto Transfer: Automatically transfers each photo after capture
- Transfer Target: Choose to transfer all or only selected images
- RAW+JPEG: Select which format to transfer
Testing the connection
- Take a test photo
- Look for the FTP icon on your camera screen
- Check your Camera Sync dashboard for the upload
Common issues
No FTP icon appearing: Ensure FTP Function is set to On and you're connected to WiFi.
Transfer stuck: Try switching between access points or restarting the camera.
Authentication failed: Re-enter your Camera Sync credentials, checking for typos.
